Jeremy Johnson
Project Manager
Hello! My name is Jeremy Johnson, and I’m currently in my third year at SDSU studying Aerospace Engineering. I joined the team in 2019 because I was drawn to the real-world engineering experiences offered and the team environment that has become part of the SDSU DBF culture. Throughout my years as a part of the team, I’ve been able to take part in everything that makes this club shine, such as taking part in manufacturing planes, utilizing CAD to create models of the plane, and furthering discussions about technical aspects of the planes we build. As the Project Manager for the 2021-2022 term, I’ll do my best to lead the team to success and create an environment for students to learn valuable engineering skills outside of the classroom. I’m very proud of this team and am eager for us all to go far!

Roberto Marquez
Co-Project Manager
Hello everyone, I’m Roberto Marquez and I am a third year Aerospace/Applied mathematics double major. I’ve been in DBF since the beginning of my freshman year alongside the current Project Manager. I joined in the hopes of getting practical experience and application of my engineering studies, building a network that’ll lead to my dream job, and meeting like minded people that can elevate my time here at SDSU. As the Co-project Manager of this school year, I will do my best to support everyone working on this project and make sure that everyone has a chance to learn & grow as an engineer. I am very excited to see what this year will bring, and what this team can accomplish.

Max Dommers
Chief Engineer
Hello, I’m Max Dommers, the Chief Engineer for SDSU DBF. Currently I’m a fourth year Aerospace Engineering student. I’m involved in Sigma Chi, Tamid, and I’m doing research with my professor. I was drawn to DBF because I was able to make important contributions to the team even though I was a new member. I was able to pick up skills that have helped me academically and professionally. And most importantly, I was able to enhance my college experience by finding like minded individuals.

Elex Leary
Treasurer
Hey All! My Name is Elex Leary and I’m a 3rd year Aerospace Engineering Major serving as DBF’s treasurer for the 2021-2022 school year. I joined this club as a freshman in order to get to meet others who share the same field, as well as to have the opportunity to take what I’ve learned in class and apply it to something real. My time here at DBF has been exciting and fulfilling and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Carlos Ortega
Outreach Coordinator
Hello everyone! My name is Carlos Ortega, a 2nd year majoring in Aerospace Engineering and am the Outreach Coordinator for the 2021-2022 school year. This will also be my second year participating in the club. I joined to be a part of a team and community of like-minded individuals in the engineering field. In addition, I wanted to get a better grasp of the Aerospace field that will help me decide what I will do in the future after graduation and to better prepare myself for major classes I will have in the coming years.

Chandara Heng
Aerodynamics & Stability Lead
Hello! My name is Chandara Heng, and I am a fourth-year Aerospace Engineering Major. I first joined DBF 2020, hoping to enhance my engineering skills and applied what I learned in class to the real-world-like application. However, DBF has given me much more within my short time as a member. I was able to learn from other members who have helped me further develop my skills academically and professionally. If you have a passion for airplane design, I highly encourage you to give DBF a chance.

Thomas Hubbard
CAD Lead
Hi! My Name is Thomas Hubbard. I am a sophomore at SDSU studying Aerospace Engineering as well as an interdisciplinary minor with Weber’s Honor College. I have been a part of DBF since the start of my freshman year. I joined DBF because I wanted to get plenty of hands-on experience with the design process. I also joined because of the awesome group of people who make up DBF and have similar interests but different expertise. Everyone has something they can learn and something they can teach! As the CAD team lead, it is my responsibility to make sure our ideas can be made into useful models, gather data from them, and to produce blueprints for production.
Special Thanks to our San Diego State University Faculty for Helping us Every Step of the Way:

Xiaofeng Liu
Academic Advisor
Hello everyone! My name is Xiaofeng Liu. I am an associate professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at SDSU. I teach AE301 Low Speed Aerodynamics, AE303 Experimental Aerodynamics, AE 340 Fluid Mechanics and AE550 Viscous Flow in the Department. I have been working as the faculty advisor to our DBF team since 2015. It is a wonderful experience to get involved in the DBF activities over the years as an integral part of the team. I enjoyed the discussion of the technical problems that the team had encountered during the airplane model development. I am also grateful to have the opportunity to help and oversee the growth of our team through the entire process in coping with the challenge brought by the annual DBF competition. I look forward to working with each and every one of you in the upcoming academic year and the new DBF competition season. Should you have questions, please just knock on my office door, or drop me an email.
